My name is Guy Merritt and this site is only here because I wanted to fiddle with something called a "content management system" (in this case, Joomla) and - besides that - domains ending in .info were only 89 cents a year at GoDaddy.com!
By the way, you can find links to the formal documentation for Joomla and the Joomla official forum in this site's forum (right here). the Joomla forum is terrific - the folks are helpful and answer quickly.... If you ask a relatively silly question, they tend to be quite forgiving....
A content managment system is something of a "website in a box" which allows folks who are unfamiliar with coding to create fairly elaborate web sites - it's explained, in greater depth, elsewhere on this site (search "why use Joomla"). Logged in as admin you can literally just type the content into the pages.....

Actually, this should be titled, "How in the hell do I use this site....?" as I am still trying to figure everything out. I plan to load this thing up with various how-tos and instructional materials but I am still trying to understand the menu and component system used by Joomla. Obviously, you can use the search function to find various articles, tips, etc.

Why use Joomla?

Here's the "deal" with Joomla.... Joomla is called a content management system, or CMS (there are others, as well), and these types of systems offer foks who know nothing about coding a website the opportunity to have a full-featured web site where the content, essentially, is simply typed into the page! The content can actually be edited directly from a page, itself, or from an administrative back end.
Anymore, this is where I spend my time when I'm on the net. I use the forum, a lot, to document various projects - by the way, the forums is currently locked. I'll add some public forums, soon. I've developed a page (the "Links" page) that I've set to my home page. From there I can get to any one of various projects and sites of personal interest, quickly.
